heh yeah...
I likely get 20-30 a day easy. It's just I had some weeks of inactivity in the past that caused my daily count to go down. It's about quality though, not quantity. ;)

Well i decided to give it a go on my mac pro as folding just freezes up(the SMP client) However, as soon as i started running it i noticed a instant slow down. It was eating up 200 mb of RAM. I only have a tiny 1 gb in this system so i can't spare that. I may give it another go once I buy more ram.....once the money arrives.:D

Profits from hardware funds Apple software. Not just the OS but the iApps too. You want to get away with not paying Apples prices and still benefit? Sorry but it would never work. MS makes MOST if it's money not by selling to the 'end user' but in contracts negotiated with computer makers as well as corporate site licences. Apple would die a quick death. Apple isn't in a position where it can force system makers to include OS X with each box sold (like MS can).

I'm surprised that no one has put forward a guess about the meaning of this. We have Jobs saying that new PowerMacs after Jan 1 will not support booting into MacOS 9 anymore, and now we have an offer that really amounts to on the order of $700 off all current PowerMacs that ends on Dec 31. This seems to me to be (possibly) adding up to a new crop of PowerMacs coming as of the first of the year.
But, then, what do I know? ;)

BitTorrent programs are the only way to go. All that other stuff is garbage. I like BitTorrent because I'm a music junkie and can't stand the fact that most of the music on networks like Kazaa is encoded by people who have no idea what they're doing. So I use Azureus to get full albums by people who, like myself, know what they're doing with music. Sure, Kazaa and Bearshare and great for computer-illiterates who don't care about good quality music, but I'll take the next step up, thank you.

I don't know, I want something that can do it all (almost)
I see it working with your iPod in your bookbag through bluetooth, for file transfer, or use the iPod as a major harddrive. you could easily download your books to read on it & save your emails & other files on the iPod....
so I want something I could use to "sketch" pictures on, read novels, write email, take class notes, etc etc...
infact, class notes could be very very cool. never having to remember if you have the right folder, and being able to print from any printer at school, especially if you had inadvertantly forgot to print your assignment before getting to class.
but that may be too fancy huh? you'd certainly wouldn't have extra paper to lend out

well, actually, we don't. But, if we did need one, this is how I'd setup the iMac:
1167MHz G4
With an increased bus speed and a clock speed 32% higher than the previous 800MHz iMac, this sucker would take the old iMac to town.
Radeon 9500
This would finally give the iMac something to talk about when comparing game performance. Plus, this would make the iMac a viable prosumer computer for 3D editing.
Monitor Spanning Option
Paired with a matching 17" widescreen display (which sadly, does not exist), the iMac could become a video editing suite. Final Cut Pro would become more manageable, and any creative user could make use of the extra screen real estate.
And This Wouldn't Kill The PowerMac
If the low-end PowerMac were bumped to dual-1GHz or even dual-933MHz, competition for speed would be minimal. All power users would still go for the PowerMac, especially with the options for expansion that the PowerMacs offer.
The Radeon 9500 would not deter buyers from the PowerMac; the GeForce4 Ti 4600 (which the PowerMacs offer), is still a more powerful display. Plus, a Radeon 9700 and the NV30 will likely ship for the Mac before entirely too long.
Oh, and about monitor spanning: I can only see this benefitting Apple. So what if a user now spends less on the purchase of a PowerMac? He'll still be buying an extra display for the ability to span across two monitors, and he's still likely to spend the money for Final Cut Pro.

does it need a video card in it?
i would assume so, though it only needs to be a crappy video card. the problem is that the BIOS or EFI or whatever firmware is running on the motherboard would usually freak out if it couldnt find a video device. i know ive turned on many machines in my building days and usually if they dont have one of the essentials (ram, proc, an input device, a video out device) they just beep and hang.

The first time I inserted a DVD I had to pick a region, this is on my 2 year old PowerBook G4. It might be a Mac OS X 10.3 thing ?
But I think Breckenridge iMac is new so don't worry.

Microsoft could scrap their OS, and build a new one from the ground up. I know they have to provide legacy support but if microsoft said all of the companies (software and hardware) had to rewrite to make compatible, they would all do it. eventually.
Perhaps this would be the best course of action for Microsoft.
But that might require some actual thinking and developing by Redmond. :eek: :rolleyes: :)

If only they had video in Quicktime! Also, the new Doctor Who hasn't had a Mac in it yet (several laptops, though). Not that this proves anything re: the thread.

apparently, and i have tested this, the G5 optimized version of firefox must have that pretty button thing compiled into it
the css
.TestButton {
border-left: 1px dotted #575757;
border-width: thick;
background-color: #f47272;
color: #575757 font: 14px Lucida Grande, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
i tested that same page on firefox rc1 that i have on my ibook and the button is exactly as it reads, thick border with the left border being dotted and the background a pall red
edit: safari on my ibook produces those same results, while safari on my G5 doesnt
test machines:
ibook g4
800mhz
640mb ram, 30gb hard drive
panther 10.3.6
G5
dual 1.8ghz
2gb ram - dual 250gb hard drives
panther 10.3.6 Server
interestingly enough, maybe its server (for some reason) not allowing the css, but i highly doubt it
odd either way

90% of the time I use my 15" Powerbook.
At work, I use many windows machines in addition to my PB.
At home, I also sometimes use my wife's Dell 700m.
Rarely, I use our home windows desktop machine.
When we visit my parents, I make frequent use of their G5 PM =].

Thanks! It's just a pain, because I tried last week, and I'm now trying again. I read something on the SETI@home page that said that Macs have been unable to get work units. Guess I'll just have to be patient.
Don
yea its odd how it wont work on macs but on PC's, must be from different servers or something like that.
hopefully it will get back on soon!!!
have a good day (its morning for me haha)

They should have demand free MacBooks:D for the time and embrassment of being stuck in an elevator.
Or at least an iPod.
Hmm...David Blaine should do something like that. Just stand, stuck, in an Apple Store elevator for 3 weeks. Its ingenious!
...and we could fill it with water. Maybe he'll actually break the record this time. :rolleyes:
