MS has made investments in Apple in the past, which isn't all that surprising given that they also sell products to the Mac market. I don't know what % ownership they have at this point, but I believe it's pretty small.

One more question. What population size server do you guys prefer; high, medium or low? Is one better than the other. I have selected a server with a low population but I am not sure that is the best thing to do. Perhaps they have a low population for a reason?
That's not quite what you think. That simply means that there is a low amount of players logged on. :D
My server said that, but now it sometimes says high when I check its status, though it usually says medium.

Just wondering what everyone thinks might be released or updated at MWSF. Does anyone think that the PowerMacs will get an update by that time? I'm pretty sure the new PowerBooks will be released by then, and definitely a new 19" lcd (maybe even an update to the entire line?)
Personally I'm shopping for a PowerMac but I don't wanna buy it today and then come MWSF an updated version comes out. Do you guys think this will happen?
Anyways, let me know what you guys think, and what you guys expect and/or are hoping for when MWSF comes rolling into SF's Moscone Center (its literally across the street from my office :D).

Oh, sure. Maybe from now on I should say "I think someone should post a link to my first post" and no one will post a link.
[I edit my message saying "Would someone post a link to my first post reading something like "KC's Introduction"?". Spoiler John hasn't edited his post yet.] :p :D

... and ship them in November (2003).
They may ship laptops at the same time.
MWSF we should see the 933 PBG4 with bluetooth and superdrive. The 667 will be discontinued. Prices will drop a little. No change to the iBooks. Later in the year, the line will move to all G4s with the iBook topping out at 800MHz. They will string us along until fall 2003. They have to, you all know it.
970 machines will be announced at MWNY or shortly thereafter. They will be pricey, and they won't be ready to ship. eMac and iBook, and maybe iMac too, will stay G4 until 2004. PowerMac and PowerBook will be getting 970's, but don't expect to have one in hand until around November (over a year from now). Relax.

We have discussed those methods before, and that doesn't help. The 5MB are for new WU's, Beta units if I'm correct. -advmethods wasn't for Tinkers (or not getting them). And G5's can handle Tinkers, G4 and G3's can too. It only takes a bit longer. I also see a big dent in my output with my G5.
OK. Just a friendly piece of advice and empirical observation coming from hours of tweaking G3s, G4s, G5s, P4s, Dual Athlons, and Dual Xeons for maximum efficiency.
From the most recent queue.dat file of a Cube G4/1.0GHz running -advmethods and 5MB OFF;

Ha, it let me vote again, even though it hasn't been 24 hours - probably because I'm voting from work, from another IP address. It's only fair, since the system made me wait almost two days to vote at one point. :D

If you think that's great, the Versiontracker page says that it's going to be at version 0.11, 2nd edition, "within an hour." :D
Apparently all it does is burn AIFF files to a CD. And the developers don't even seem to have a homepage.
Well, if you know how to work the system, more power to you! :)

How do I tell it to keep folding after I've shutdown and started back up?
Just set the application (fah4) to launch on startup.

(this is if you have Tiger. It shouldn't be too different in previous versions of OS X)

Agreed. Nikon has stated that they're not going to be providing drivers for OS9, so I was stuck at OS 8.6. I did find (through MacRumors) that a couple of 3rd parties have a Photoshop Plug-in that I installed, so it now is working under OS9. I'm just not sure if going to X is going to "re-break" things.
I'd guess the reason you're debating between the 17" iMac and the 1GHz DP rather than the 867GHz DP is because you want the CD-RW/DVD-R, so in that case you have to decide this:
17" iMac is $500 cheaper, plus it comes with the 17" flat display.
1GHz DP is more expandable/upgradable...and is going to be about twice as fast in OS X being a dual processor...
If you were going to get a 1GHz DP, you'll also have to get a display. If you were set on an Apple 17" flat display, that's another $999. Maybe you don't mind using your current monitor, though, and that would save you the added expense.
Yes, my thoughts were to recycle my existing 17" CRT if I were to go with the 1GHz DP. I'd also make it a point to have a SuperDriver on either.
Judging by your 8500, it seems like you might be the type to want to upgrade your machine down the road...
Anyone who finds disassembling an 8500 to be "not all that hard" can handle any Mac upgrade :-)
I'd go for the 1GHz DP, but only because I'm big on upgrading my machines and adding in extra hard drives, PCI cards, and so forth. If you doubt you'll want to upgrade your machine, go for the iMac, unless the added processor power is really important to you.
If I pick up something that can be upgraded, I'll eventually do so (FWIW, my 8500 currently has 3 hard drives in it ... yes, I know that the chasis technically only is supposed to support 2). But I am getting tired of "mucking" around with the hardware, and getting distracted from doing what I should (like maintaining my webpages). To that end, I'm even toying a little bit with the idea of considering a TiBook instead of a desktop. That way, I could do some "work" in the TV room - that way, my wife doesn't feel abandoned :D
