That doesn't seem to be what he's inferring there. It just looks to me that he's comparing future specs of a PPC7455 to a PPC970.

And this section is devoted to the development of Messenger for Mac

Could be worse. They could assign the Vista development team to take over Messenger for Mac... :(

using inkwell to input text into a computor
is really a lot slower than typing. i would need
the screen to have some sort of touch screen
keyboard for intering larges amounts of text.

While both Solaris and OSX are Unix OS's, that does not mean that OSX can scale as well as Solaris any more than it means that Solaris can run the OSX interface (which it obviously cannot).

The fact that OSX is some sort of Unix means a lot less than you seem to think. It is good because it means it adheres to certain standards, but it says little or nothing about the machinery that makes it go.

I started folding for this team in 2002 and I don't have the most points since I started back when the points weren't very high, but my machines have done quite a few work units over the years.

Most people seem to want instant gratification.

I just remembered my dream last night...it was a brand new wireless mighty mouse on apple's main page. The mouse was slightly larger than the current mighty and had parts in the front that were transparent. The whole mouse was rechargable.

And here's the cool part (I don't know how my brain works this well in sleep), there was an orb that you set the mouse in to recharge that is connected via USB to your mac. And that same orb is what contained the wireless receiver for the mac. Then for classrooms there was a big orb, that looked sort of like an iSub, where you could put 12 mice in all at once to recharge them quickly.

I just wanted to post this in case, I have any sort of prophetic powers, so it's on the record. ;)

This is, by far, one of the most intersting posts I've ever read. Particularly when you discovered they started connecting to your network! Can't wait to hear what happened, as well as who stole the thing.

those math functions are extremely complex and hard to do fast if we stay way behind the curve of the pc world

i was in this computer repair class where we had to do the math, some of the math that a processor did, so we could appreciate that little thing

in the old days of computing, way back when in the 1970s, many computing funtions had to be done by phd mathematicians and there were very few silicon "math co-processors"

early computer science college programs were thus a lot like math programs...it's so funny, actually sad, to see how many older, math literate techies were completely unable to relate when gui came along...it was like the great slaughter in silicon valley...we take the mouse and gui for granted but not only did it take away jobs, it also was a curve ball many inflexible older techies could not adjust to

change is never easy in the IT field and that is why it is rare to see anybody go from mathematician with vacuum tubes to green screen coder to gui to "whatever" the future holds

i also had a friend who had memorized hundreds of key combinations like ctrl-a and such and he only just learned to use the mouse two years ago...he took literally five years to learn how to use it with its two buttons...he could never remember, "was that right click, left click, double click, and where do i keep my fingers?"

i could go on with old man stories from the trenches of san jose, but i will stop NOW ;)

if you started with a mouse, it only takes a few weeks to learn how to interact with windows and modern computers

one family friend, a computer professor at stanford, never got used to gui and he still uses his trusty 286...he says he can't think when there is more than one color on the screen and he never got used to the mouse

kind of the way i feel like when i use "hex-pee" or i try to play a game console thingy like x-box with all those buttons...as a ten year old yanks the keypad/console from me at the computer store and memorizes the keys and buttons within minutes as it relates to that game being played

    :p

Back on topic. Cooler 360 and not the original DVD drive = more silent 360? I find my original to be a little bit too noisy as I often play it with low sound volume. I'll be waiting for more official info.

But seeing as though the currently manufactured machines are using the quieter drive anyway - all were talking about with this rev is a bigger HDD and hdmi.

I still think it will be hilarious if that Engadget article which already admited was a picture of the black dev kit is wrong and all this bickering is over nothing :D

go on microsoft.. make me laugh :p :)

NG Black has an easy mode if you wanted to pick it up cheaper and used for the 360...just have to die a bunch to unlock it. Also can unlock the original NG arcade...

    Paul

Ahh good to know. It should be in Sigma then. Since I don't have a 360 as of current (waiting until Microsoft gets their quality issues fixed, and maybe new shiny black 360 :D), I'll wait for Sigma. Besides, I want my 1080p Ninja Gaiden!

So, does Photoshop CS (8.0) already take full advantage of the dual G5?

I've got the same question. However, since the update is only for version 7, I'm guessing the CS already supports the G5.

i apologize for calling you a troll when you are not a troll at all

i looked back on your previous posts and i found no evidence of you being a troll, so i can see why everybody defended you and wondered why i got so upset

there are real trolls on macrumors (alphatech calls them "newbies"), i won't metion any names, but i have just got to learn to ignore them and realize that maybe they have a different point of view...or that they sign up once and make a post to rile us up and then return to their pc machines ;)

some people, like one poster i got to know well from the past, but who got banned, actually contributed to macrumors even though his/her language was a little too salty

the first time i encountered this poster, he/she immediately challenged me but i realized it was the style of this poster and i let it go and we became kind of a team...i then became the second member of the anti zealot campaign, followed by mischief, then many others;)

I am starting to think that we'll be seeing perhaps new screens before the end of the month, may a new digital device; but no new hardware until next year.

I know that's a sad prediction, but I think that we'll see some major upgrades some time next year.

that is of course if Apple wants to stay in business.

i hope stanford makes a version that sets itself up as dual in the future. it seems long overdue

there's a field in the rc5 client that says number of processors and u just change the value....seems like stanford isn't too concerned about this

    Anyone?
