sounds like your PC won't boot.

Yes, you are probobly right. The fan spins at boot up. than, it starts to load Windows. However, I don't think it is booting at all. Besides, I have no video signal, so even if it was, i have no way to do anything.

"Putting the harddrive in the iMac?" Sounds a bit risky to me. I dont know. this is an iMac G3, 233 MHz. The original "Bondi Blue." I might be willing to give it a shot, but how would it affect the iMac's HD? Also, Where can you buy one of these "External encloseres?"

well either way Safria is still so far under the rader that it not even look at for browser testing or capiblity. Which being under 2% it not going to be consider and until it leaves the "other catigotor" it going to sit like that.
IE, Moz, netscape, Oprea hell even the AOL browser is more widely used that safari

I think Safari is sitting at best at 50% prouble less for mac use (the poll is very baise poll by the nature of the site by it self and is load with the people who think if it not apple it sucks)

So, where did you get the Beta from? I looked at the download/beta section of Stanford, but didn't see it.

Its intel only. However, to get it you have to request to join the beta team in the forums.

    -hh

The general rule of thumb is that if the software interfaces with added peripherals (external scanner, external CD-R, internal PCI cards, etc.) it will not function under Classic properly. The software will run, but it won't be able to access the hardware. That's why a lot of audio and video guys are stuck in OS 9.x, the software they use relies on PCI cards which can't be used within Classic.

In your situation, the only problem would be your slide scanner, and I know how expensive those damn things are, not something you want to run out and replace. For your external SCSI CD-RW, you could use Toast 5.x and a FireWire/SCSI adapter, though that wouldn't be necessary as the systems you mentioned all have CD-RW capabilities.

I'd guess the reason you're debating between the 17" iMac and the 1GHz DP rather than the 867GHz DP is because you want the CD-RW/DVD-R, so in that case you have to decide this:

17" iMac is $500 cheaper, plus it comes with the 17" flat display.

1GHz DP is more expandable/upgradable, has a slightly better video card (which as you have no interest in 3D games you shouldn't care about), and is going to be about twice as fast in OS X being a dual processor, but in OS 9.x you'll only see advantages in applications written to take advantage of the second processor.

If you were going to get a 1GHz DP, you'll also have to get a display. If you were set on an Apple 17" flat display, that's another $999. Maybe you don't mind using your current monitor, though, and that would save you the added expense.

Judging by your 8500, it seems like you might be the type to want to upgrade your machine down the road, and while the optical drive, hard drive, and RAM in the iMac are pretty standard, the processor is on the logic board and is not upgradable, nor can you add PCI cards as new technologies become standard (USB 2.0, the next version of FireWire, whatever).

I'd go for the 1GHz DP, but only because I'm big on upgrading my machines and adding in extra hard drives, PCI cards, and so forth. If you doubt you'll want to upgrade your machine, go for the iMac, unless the added processor power is really important to you.

It's not like Apple is sitting on tons of processors. They buy from Motorola. Motorla may or may not be sitting on processors... but it's non of Apple's concern.

The reason why the 7470 isn't used is that the 7470 is a figment of your imagination. It does not exist.

I dunno . . . maybe my need for "office" applications is not as serious as other folks, but why would an average Mac OS X user need 'M$ Office' when something like 'OpenOffice.org (http://www.openoffice.org/)' is available?

I grant you that I don't do a lot of things with "office" applications so I can't say with absolute certainty there are no problems with it, but I have yet to have a problem exchanging documents with people who use M$ Office.

I'm thinking about getting the godfather for the wii...although a port it looks to be interesting.

I think those ratings are just right most importantly Zelda TP. I thought gamespot had a soft spot for the wii because love to talk about it and give it praise.

    Bless

8.9 is the lowest score of all the major game ratings sites. His justifications were based on no orchestral music and graphics. Basically, he's a graphics whore.

I watched the movie 300 this weekend and it reminded me very much of many next gen games. Without all the eyecandy there was very little movie there at all. It was a nice distraction and fun to watch but not something I will go back to over and over again. The games that the graphics whores at Gamespot rate as 8s have far more substance to them than most of the popular modern AAA titles. Thats just my opinion though. You don't have to believe it.

When will the retail Radeon 9000 Pro/Mac version arrive ? That was suppose to be out in Sept, which is almost over.

Has anyone seen these advertised anywhere ? That will be a great update to my quicksilver.

    Still sounds bogus to me.

A no-name company announces a product which has capabilities that no competing product can come close to offering. Yet, prior to its announcement, there were no hints as to its creation. Also, this coincides with PearPC reaching a usable level.

And now, they "delay" the release of the product because of a web site failure caused by many people visiting their site?

    I still don't buy it.

I seriously didn't think this would happen by 2010. Wow.

Haha seriously! I thought Dell would just stay with Intel all the way through. But then again, they're sales have been VERY bad the past year, and there have always been rumors about Dell jumping onto the AMD bandwagon.

This should be very interesting though. I love BOTH AMD and Intel. Looks like the competition is about to heat up soon! I think Apple will kick everyone's butts once they have Conroe and Merom in their computers!

Sounds like stealing music to me..

I figured I'd get blasted for this after I post. The thing is, the share feature is incorporated into iTunes and lets you listen to other peoples music. I want to download their music so I can put it on my iPod. I'm still only listening to it and not selling it or making money off it.. I dunno.

Apparently they're waiting for the server load to go down a bit before releasing it through the auto update function. Presumably it'll self-update rather than direct you to the site.

Huh? It has nothing to do with HTML or JS, it's a bug in the app itself.

Apparently, the sites I've seen that were corrected, mimicked the problem with bad code.

Yeah, the thought of being too hard on MS occasionally runs through my mind, but never for very long....when you see stuff like this (http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:BYNLfKsA0FkJ:oami.eu.int/PDF/design/invaldec/ICD%2520000000743%2520decision%2520(EN).pdf+&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1)...

Ya, it sure does not take M$ long to provide more reasons not to like them.

Process 2 on my G4 is having the same issue

It is getting a 404 error on that process, and it won't turn in my previous work unit. All IP and internet connectivity is doing well. I will see if Process 1 runs into the same problem when it is completed.

You guys are such nerds  . I've been working at an apple store since this past september. All of the the employees (including managment) check out macrumors and other apple related sights , somestimes during work breaks and such.
Yeah my friend works at the Apple store and reads these sites too. She says she posts as well she just doesnt identify herself as an apple employee.
