Give us a 1984, Brave New World desktop!
Well when Palladium becomes the de facto standard for copyright protection, you'll get your wish.
As for industrial design, I do agree that I'd like to see something better, too. Not that the current design is bad, but something sleeker and sharper, kinda like B&O's stereo components, would be really sweet.

For some reason, this really doesn't surprise me much.
MySpace has gotten so huge, that people who already have high-traffic sites just tell everyone to go see their MySpace instead. :p I've even heard ads where instead of telling the listener to go to X web site, they tell them to 'check them out on myspace.'

Even though i would liek apple to keep the current ti design this patent i doubt is much more then 5-6 months old caus ei fu look at teh filing date that means when apple applied for this patent. So it takes quite a while to get a patent to tehy must have jstu got it and i agree with who ever sadi before that the case design was vague adn most likely a genrec drawing.

Windows XP is one of the most overpriced crappy operating systems I have used. $300 to install XP Pro? Tiger is $130!!! And it actually works!
Tiger is $130? Then try buying a Apple Hardware without OS X preinstalled. You've already paid for the OS when you bought the hardware. The upgrade is $130.

Yes it will work with a 4x, 6x, or 8x AGP. Also from what I've seen at least with this card and the other current ones there will be no speed benefits to 6x or 8x AGP because they don't use that much bandwith.

Kay, forgive my ignorance, but why are certain model #s selected for member ranking, and not others? Is it just arbitrary? It's just that there are so many models (5000s, 9000s, etc. etc. ), why were the 65xxxs and 68xxxs chosen? And then the progression to 600s?
Also, (and once again forgive my ignorance of Apple history!) but how do all these models "fit together", as far as timelines go? I assume they're all PowerMac models, and get increasingly newer as the member progresses?
Just curious!

exactly.
But they should expand into cell phones and a home media center/hub/router/perfect-life-maker type thingy. And I think they will. Not so fast. Again, the cell phone industry has several entrenched manufacturers who make great products. To be successful in this market, the cell phone manufacturer requires carriers which will bundle the manufacturer's phone with their new services. Apple currently has a good relationship with Cingular Wireless. However, I think that Apple can hardly make a dent in the armor of Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, etc.
As for the home media center thing, Apple already has a family of wireless routers. They are called Airport. Wired routers come from various other manufacturers. I use a Linksys. Before that, I used a Siemens. An Apple wired router might appeal to the fanboy market, but will do little to contribute to the bottomline. This whole home media center thing seems to appeal more to teenage boys who want a setup in their bedrooms than to adults who want to setup their living rooms and media rooms. What do you want to do that you can't do now?

Hey Duke, it seems you're wondering the same things as me. I did ask Shrek before as I'm just interested as he's of a similar age to me so I wanted to understand where his thoughts come from. I do love the enternal optismism though, it's a refreshing change to all the doom and gloom about.
I think the basic idea is sound enough and that it attempts to mimic the current situation of G4s and G3s. However from a marketting stand point you don't want to be calling to completely different chips the same thing. People get easily confussed and these forums clearly display this. The PowerMacs are a flagship for a reason. I don't know any manufacturer who puts their highest performing parts in their midrange machines (even for a month or two). I understand Shrek's logic and in essence the idea is ok but in practise it would never work.
Here's another though, the ibook and PowerBook (maybe imac and emac) will get speed bumps in the near future before the OS 9 restrictions are imposed, thus if this switch is hardware imposed in gives Apple a clear Window to start with introducing new PowerMacs and then filter in the other products in good time.

Introduce Moto's G5 at MWSF in PowerMacs and xServe and at MWNY introduce the POWER4 chip (different name than G5) and place those in PowerMacs and xServes and place Moto's G5 in iMacs/PowerBook (G4 in iBook and eMac)

Ditto what everyone else has said here... short domain names are cool if you can get them (I have "clayj.com"), especially since you can then have a short e-mail address (mine is "clayj@clayj.com"... it has the added distinction of being MY name at MY domain and it's easy to remember).
So true.
In my case, in the early days I was very lucky to get my first and last initial, which also happens to be my nickname.
It's a dot com address.
The total characters. including the @ and period, is 10.
Short and sweet! :D

I'm going to try this. On my laptop it's got the same graphics card (Intel GMA 950) I'm running 1.86GHz Core Solo, 1gb ram 60gb hard drive. This is in Vista Home Premium so hopefully it goes smoothly. I'll let you guys know i'm installing BF2 right now (I got the deluxe edition too)
Please let me know how it works out. I HOPE it works for you. Maybe it will help with my problem

Didn't we just talk about this in another thread? Maybe I read it somewhere else.
Anyway, whatever. They can try to have it removed all they want. No law says you can't try. I just doubt any judge will back them up.

but if you read all the post he is retarded, he keeps quoting these unlimited sources, and yet he seems to be a college student or something, how could he have 4 or five dependable apple sources?? He also said that they are releasing G4 iBooks along with the powerbooks... c'mon, dude is on crack. no way in hell there will be a g4 iBook AND powerbook unless the powerbook was dual (and we know that aint happening)

No, let's hope it IS 802.11g cuz it's 802.11b backwards compatible since they're on the same 2.4Ghz frequency.
It's 802.11a that's on a seperate one, 5Ghz I think.
Gawd, all these numbers are sooooooooo confusing.
I wish they'd get with one and stick with it, though shopping for wireless stuff isn't nearly as confusing as shopping for DVD burners.http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/veronica/eek21.gifhttp://img.ranchoweb.com/images/veronica/rolleyes.gif

Why? I wouldn't like to see M$ put a Hd-DVD drive in at all.
The fact is, the PS3 is tooooo expensive because of Blu-Ray that is included. It's forced upon those who don't have a HDTV, which makes it expensive and pointless.
Not that I'm turning pro-Ps3 here (not that I'm anti-Ps3, I'm just not a fan) or anything :p but considering that the Elite is $479 over the Premium for a +100gig HD boost, 1 HDMI port, + a black color -
the Ps3 isn't really "too expensive" anymore when you consider the cost of the Elite 360.
Of course we're assuming that once the regular Premium models get the beefier HD and HDMI, the price stays at $399 for those (nothing's been said either way, but that's what I expect). Still...$479 for the Elite doesn't do much to say "hey, buy a 360, it's a better bargain over a Ps3" because IMO at that price point in this stage in the game...all things considered, the 20gig Ps3 is a better deal because for $20 extra you get a HD movie player (in BluRay).
If I didn't have a 360 already, but I did have $500 burning a hole in my pocket...dare I say I'd buy the Ps3 for that price. God what have I become...:D :p
