I have sent an email to my manager here at Gateway with a link to that article to see if we can get iPods to keep up with Dell. I will be interested to see what they say. "Ah... well ...hmmm... maybe if we hadn't run those ads bashing the iMac... damn."
Guess maybe you should be careful who you go around trashing on TV.

If you check on the apple.ca 's store page, it says it's updating. I wonder... what's new?
The US store is now down too! New products on a Monday!? Hmm..I guess they could just be updating the store's backend with nothing new coming.

I have no interest in knowing what Joe Shmow managed to tweak out of his DP1gig (without at least knowing what exactly he did!) If you're going to run serious benchmarking and try to make ANY sense of the results and have it actually mean something - do stock configurations or do exact configurations with the only difference being integral system hardware (cpu type, fsb, mobo specs).
I have NO doubt that if you tweak a single 933 to the gills and freshly defragment the harddrive that you could smoke a dual cpu 1.25 with DDR that the harddrive has been written to a gross amount with no defragmentation and has had some stupid resource configurations. But what is the point!?? That in no way accurately shows the ability of a system, its just smoke and mirrors and complete nonsense.
If my idea of tweaking a dual 1.25ddr system was dropping it down the stairs, my 9600/300 could beat it hands down everytime.. but whats the point? ;)
But I agree with you, these guys have flaws in their results. There is I'm sure a bias in reults and I'm sure even a few submissions were doctored, and the results should be used for only a guide - but I'm not even sure that theyre worth that much guidance all together - I think its a lot of bunk.
I guess we all just want a rough guide from somewhere since we have no hope in hell of Apple every producing true results.

the problem i see, in this specific case, is that (like jsw was saying, i think) all computer manufacturers use farmed out labor, and most, if not all of it, is probably not in good conditions. so, do you go without a computer? or do you buy the cheapest non apple alternative (which is all the more likely to be sweatshopped)?
i have run into this problem with other things, like shoes and clothing. i can find very few good non sweatshopped shoes... especially for specialized things like soccer shoes. new balance, and a few other small US made brands are the only ones i know of. but i need soccer shoes for soccer, so what do i do?
it's a dilemma that certainly goes beyond apple. i chose "maybe", because 1. i don't know 100% the situation with apple's conditions and 2. like i said, what sweatshop labor free alternative is there besides being computerless?
either way, it certainly concerns me. i just wish i had any alternative

Hi, this was something that I heard/saw at the AppleStore by me. How it works is the $30 is for shipping but also covers the repair and in the case of they can't fix it you get a new nano. The other option is that of paying for AppleCare, I think that is $49 for two years.
I agree that the $30 seems high but in the case of getting a new nano or left with the broken one your kinda stuck

Am I the only one who didn't like gears of war? I just thought it was incredibly boring. I couldn't stand more than 1/2 an hour playing it.
A movie based on it? The only good game => movie crossover I can think of was the tomb raider movies, and they we're only slightly above average. The mario movie was fun in the stuipest sense, but not good in the least.

Apple is not in the business of giving away printers. The printer was very much like a rebate on the computer. The major difference is that he received the printer immediately rather than 8 to weeks later as is usually the case with rebates. Since the OP returned the computer, he had no right to keep the printer.
Well, the printer had a mail-in rebate to make it free too, so I had to wait a few weeks for that check. I was actually surprised it came, since I had long since returned the iMac and was waiting to get the Mini. But Apple never asked for the printer, nor did it not send the refund. So the printer was free without the iMac.
Why is why I didn't get the second printer when asked. Because I felt bad about it. Which is why I started this thread. Okeedokee everybody? Clear enough?

I'm thinking I'm going to get one of the first, depending on how Apple releases them. I'd like to have multiprocessors as well, so I might wait till they become available.
But I can't wait to see how it handles 3D rendering - it should blow my current machines out of the water.

Even though no one seems to really post in here, it could be a nice place to have secluded discussion about MR stuff instead of on the General board.
Just my random thought after finding this forum for the first time.
Its 'exclusiveness' and yeah It needs to be moved.

i find it to be clunky and hard to use... specially the typing.
If you find typing on the Wii clunky, you should see what its like on the PSP!

There are a number of us who are having trouble accessing .mac mail since last night (18+ hours). I can access ALL .mac services, except for mail (webmail seems to be unavailble as well).
.Mac system status shows the following: ".Mac email is currently unavailable for a small number of .Mac customers. iDisk and web-based services (like HomePage, Backup and iCards) are unaffected."
