Does anyone suspect that Apple might pull a wildcard on us in a few days with a brand new PowerBook? New enclosure, portable SuperDrive, faster bus?

Surfing the current TiBook webpages made me realize how outdated they were (still touting the 5 Gig iPod, for instance, in the OfflineRT page for FCP) and we all know that the PowerBook is the last Apple product to boast their new identity typeface (Myriad) ... I'm just hoping that the Keynote address at Seybold includes and introduction to Apple's newest pro-level notebook.

    Wishful thinking, perhaps.

I think it will be a slightly different interface, but the version will definitely be iTunes 4. I also wouldn't expect to see it until at least MWNY 2003. I heard that Apple has run into a ton of problems with rendevous in 10.2.1, and that's why they haven't released it yet.

I've had the program running for many days now -- and it claims it will take another 8 days to complete a WU on a 1GHz G4.

This seems insane to me somehow.

That's not quite what you think. That simply means that there is a low amount of players logged on. :D

My server said that, but now it sometimes says high when I check its status, though it usually says medium.

no, its meant for how many different accounts have created characters on that server. or so i think. you could be right though.

personally, i like medium population servers. with high population, there's a queue sometimes, with low population servers, i can't find groups for instances and such.

I don't and won't do anything for SETI. If extraterrestrial life existed God would have told us from the beginning. ;) All in all it is a waste of time and a waste of your life for an empty cause. Are you serious or joking? In any case, the computers are doing all the work, it's not a waste of my time! I'm not running SETI now, but I've had this dual G5 sitting around, seems like I should put it to work. I do agree though, the time is probably better spent with something closer to home and more immediately useful, like protein folding.

Now here is what the Apple ad campaign should have been. Instead of spending time and money with a silly dated stereo-typical set of ads they should have made a connection between the iPod campaign and the Mac campaign.

These are new ads by HP and they effectively tie HP to the iPod in my mind. Are they perfect? Hell no. They are kinda cheese but the underlying look and idea would have been perfect for the Mac. Start with the mac and then have it lead into an iPOd commercial. Guy sitting at hte mac compose a song download it then the traditional iPod commercial fades in and out to end the commercial.

The average Output/month of CustomPC is about 1,000,000 points higher then ours. Don't think we can stop them from overtaking.
We will have to get back at them in a month or so ;)

There really is no science to model numbers except for the sake of identification. You can create conventions to make it easier for others to follow and understand but sometimes the marketing takes over and conventions go out the door. That's true, but Moto has a listed naming convention for people to use. It's just that a lot of posters put out stuff like "the 7500 isn't a true G5" when in fact they have no idea what a G5 really is. Sure, Moto could change the convention, but right now, a 75xx chip would be a G5.

It is back online and see if you can spot the changes.

    uhh... not quite...

Digg is down due to metropolitan network issues that took down
several of digg's upstream network providers this morning. The metro
network is being repaired and digg will be back as soon as possible.

this is kind of wierd. i assume it is a typo, but maybe there is some other expanation for it. [Note: clicking link will begin download!]here, (http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/bc/nph-bc) the first line of the first paragraph: Thank you for your interest in features of the next version of Mac OS X, Leopard. this is on the page you get after beggining to download bootcamp.

any ideas? kinda specific, and a bit odd for a typo. is there any way its not a mistake, or am i missing something?

the second comment to that article is great: " Yep. It's official. They're having snowball fights in hell. Honest. I have a giga report saying so."

and why would they switch to x86 when they're going to have the ppc970 (or some variation thereof) at their disposal by that time?

been said before, it would kill apple hardware. dead horse plz.

Register has an article verifying the 160+ instructions are Altivec compatible. Very good news.. I didn't see this talked about in the other threads.. and it's getting old reading people talk about the new 970 processor vs other chips... and what not.. so i started a new thread so all could see.

    http://www.theregus.com/content/3/26650.html

"IBM's Peter Sandon disclosed technical details for IBM's PowerPC 970 processor in San Jose this morning and confirmed that the processor supports the AltiVec instruction set. "

Register writer Andrew Orlowski notes "The 970 smokes today's desktop competition in terms of raw number crunching." -- not sure if he's speaking of apple's current desktops or pc desktops in general. I would assume the latter.

its not saying that your actual vision will improve. its saying that your ability to discern objects in a mess/fast moving environment is improved.

oh well then i guess its working :P

But hey, gooo...sony! Get them 4 gigers out in three years!

I think over achiever is referring to me, here! I did post my opposition to putting 5GB of memory in a digicam, mostly because today's consumer digicams do not output files big enough to warrant that much memory. Keep in mind, however, that the 5GB Memory Stick comes out in when we may need that much memory in our digital cameras. Until then, I'm fine with 128MB in my Nikon Coolpix.
