IF you modded, that you can run linux on it, then it's very easy to put folding on it. I will try to convince a friend of mine who mods Xbox's and try it on his, if he wants to. He is a bit carefull with folding, I explained it to him a couple of times, but he doesn't get it. :(

Congrats on your 500Mhz powerbook, for which I envy you. However, for those of us who don't use a computer solely for wordprocessing, surfing the web, and other less-processor-intensive activities, speed is everything. The difference between 800MHz and 1GHz (or 1.25, which is unlikely) is vast in terms of the number of plug-ins available in audio recording applications like Logic, etc. I'm waiting for Apple to cross the 1GHz barrier in a G4 laptop (and I don't care whether it's an ibook or Tibook anymore, just give me the product!) so I can upgrade my dinosauric but beautiful 450 G3 blue and white powermac (matching 17" monitor, matching bondi 8x QPS cd-r, matching superdrive, matching bondi halogen desklamps from ikea, the whole frickin' deal, hoss...).
So, in other words, "overkill, my arse." Bring on the speed already, apple. duals in a laptop would be great, but won't happen because it will either or both: 1) cannibalize apple's powermac market; and 2) require a bulkier chassis for the powerbook. in light of the fact that apple's only true competitor is Sony's vaio line of sleek and stylish wintel boxes, it would be a surprise if apple ceded the sex factor to Sony by moving away from the TiBook's slickness and slim size. I would expect future versions of the Powerbook to be slim and stylish, not bigger and bulkier. certainly not for the purpose of cannibalizing other, profitable product lines.
But I don't have a crystal ball, either... :-)

Well I for one think that Myspace is amazing. Its a great way to keep in touch with all my friends outside of school, and plus its something to do if your bored.
yep, and that's exactly what I use it for. I've found friends from high school who I probably wouldn't have found otherwise. I don't use it to meet people, I don't use it as an e-popularity gauge, and I'm not too worried about all the crap people put on their pages.

Daring Fireball already disected this in detail and basically shows hor stupid this line of argument is, but the simple fact is that Arlo was stealing ideas and basically set himself up for failure from the get-go. Apple has long had small applications with limited functionality in their system releases, and this is just an expansion of their implementation to make it even easier for people to write applications or applets for the mac. Attacking them for it means you need to go after Automator and any AppleScript, too, since they're just rehashing of things that other people have done.

It was sarcastic humor, if anyone even cares. Actually MDN has been relatively calm and civil lately, especially without the political firestorms.
Btw, that's a classic clueless IT story, Earendil. It's both sad and comical how their strict, stubborn Windows-centric antivirus policy insisted on making unnecessary hassles for you with controlling, fearful, reactive behavior that exposed their ignorance about Mac OS X. Any negotiations under those circumstances can be hopelessly frustrating but getting too pissed-off only seems to counterproductively fuel their delusions. Good "luck"!

I can understand why people would think this is a good thing. But at the same time, there are consequences for Apple. Apple sells others peoples songs, if they thought that selling to Apple would mean that their songs could be immediately transfered to P2P outlets they would be reluctant to supply ITMS with any songs.
When it comes to picking ITMS over a different outlet, the amount of available content has a lot to do with it.
I am really curious about who is behind this new group. This software is a poison pill for ITMS, as far as label owners are concerned.
Steve was just in the news for sending an email claiming that a rivals software was easily hacked in order to bypass the restrictions in place to prevent downloaders from freely sharing the music they have purchased.
This smacks of corporate skullduggery at its worst.
On a positive note, it proves that Apple is the company to go after in this area.
On the other hand, Apple needs to step up and protect its interests in this area.
For some reason, 'PlaysForSure' keeps coming to mind.

What I was hoping I could avoid was sitting around in a group of prepubescent boys listening to them talk about how cool they say they are all while we wait for the giant pickle monster to repop so that the pimple faced leader can bark commands at me so that I can have a shot to obtain the uber l33t girdle that I need to protect myself from the kid with anger issues who hunts down newbs to somehow justify his existence. I had my fill of that playing MUDs and it no longer fits my concept of fun.
Well, sounds like you don't want to play on a PvP server anyway, at least. Otherwise, end-game 40-man raids can be fun, as long as you find a good guild. The definition of this can vary though. Tends to be that the guilds that "get **** done" tend to take the game pretty seriously—meaning if you don't have your ass in gear, you'll get kicked, and justifiably so. Most of the end-game encounters require that people know the fights and do what they're supposed to. That's not to say that there aren't good raid leaders who are also decent human beings, but there's a certain level of hard-assery it takes to run an effective (read: profitable) raid.
Keep in mind though, if you don't like getting ganked by enemy players in PvP and the idea of running end-game instance raids doesn't sound appealing to you either... there really isn't much for you to do in WoW. It's either PvP or PvE once you hit the level cap. Of course, BC might've changed that somewhat, I hear the level 70 raids are focused on being smaller, rather than the 40-person dungeon crawls of the 60 days (MC, BWL, AQ40, and Naxx). But I can't speak from personal experience on that one—I sold my epic 60 before BC came out and escaped the time sink that is World of Warcraft for good. ;)

I too agree that the DVD-R should not hold up the release of a new faster TiBook with ATI 9000 and Bluetooth, as those are more important to me right now. I would like the option for an external DVD-R for all Apple products, but especially the TiBook.
HOWEVER, I think that LATER, when supplies permit, Apple should release an internal DVD-R version of the Ti......but for God's sake, don't hold it up for it!
Priority for me is:
167FSB / G4 1.0GHz and 2MB L3
then
Better Graphics, like ATI 9000
then
DDR (would be a givin if we went to the new 167FSB)
then
DVD-R
