I think that is the clue that says its real. If it said PowerBook then it would have to be a lot bigger.
But think about it, it is a Power Book! Duo. You can read and write!;)
I dont know about the logo though. Does it say i.

regarding airport range, i dont know. I use airport in a small apartment, and obviously, it works great.

as far as the 14 and 12 inch ibooks. they have the same resolution, meaning, you see the same amount of stuff on the screen, it is just bigger on the 14. I like the 12 inch because it is so portable, and easy to handle. but to each their own. go to comp usa, or an apple store if you have one near, and look for yourself. what do you like?

Glad to hear Jackson won't be directing the Halo movie. He did great with LOTR, but I hated King Kong. The movie would have been far too long with him behind the wheel.

Now..how long before someone eliminates the need to actually burn a CD to make this all work? :p

Just use iTunes to convert the WAV to an MP3 or AAC (or lossless or AIFF etc). Burning to CD is a wasted step in this entire process.

Oh, I thought you were having a pun battle with me. You know... "point".

I was just showing that whathisface's comment was redundant after someguy had already said he recieved an email from steve. The 'point 'was to push my post to the '1 character' minimum.

Yes, now in retrospect I just look like a tool.
    :D

The pun was intended, I just didn't get what you meant. It's all clear now though. ;)

This is just like when one of the retailers was advertising the 867, 1, and 1.25GHz and accidentally left out the "2" in 1.25 so it read 1.5 and everyone was going crazy about the possibility of an upgrade. Doh!

Look, Apple is focused on having an Alti-Vec processor, everything has been written for that, now people say the new IBM Power PC based on Power4 might not be Alti-Vec so therefore Apple will not use them. If Apple is so worried about having Alti-Vec, then why in the hell would they be now going to an x86 from AMD. If Apple goes AMD or Intel it would have to be an x86 processor. That is what they build and they are not going to build a small number of some special high tech processor just for Apple, sorry IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Okay lets say you guys are right and Apple says...yep an AMD Athlon for our PowerMacs in Jan...then what do you do with the "i" and "e" series. Do you continue on with them as a PPC with Alti-Vec and make the PowerMacs with an x86 AMD? HOLY MOLY what a confusing thing. We then have Macs that are not even compatible with each other, you then have to make different software for different computers. What about all the PPC Macs that are out there right now. How long do companies have to make different software for all different types of machines? If Apple goes to AMD it would not be a PowerPC, and for now changing chip arc. would make for lots of confusion.

There is still something called AIM and PowerPC and this is where the future Apple processors will come from. Intel and AMD are not going to plug huge amounts of money into designing an all new chip that is completely compatible with PPC considering Apples market share. If Apple goes x86 then they might as well stick Windows XP on their machines and go head to head with the rest of the PC mess.

I really hate sites that automatically play movies with sound when I go to them.
Any site that plays annoying music (often midi) or loud sounds automatically when I go to them is likely to steer me away.

I thought Apple was smarter than that, but currently they have advertisements that automatically play with sound. I like the advertisements that they have placed on CNN, as they dont play with sound automatically.

Pro or con- Give Apple a quick bit of feed back here (http://www.apple.com/getamac/feedback/) through their website.

Rarely do I get so pissed off, but for some reason this rubs me the wrong way. So I figured I could see what the Mac Rumors people think about this, and perhaps, if anybody else was ticked off, you too could tell Apple.

Correct me if I am wrong.

This is immediately after the 1GHz G4 came out:

It is important to note that this is only the first installment in this processor family. "The big news here is that this device is certainly not topped out," said Swearingen. Mac users can reasonably expect incremental performance increases from this processor family in the future, taking Apollo to its promised GHz+ performance levels. Swearingen could not comment on when these increments will come or what size they will be. The Apollo G4s are available now at speeds between 600MHz and 1GHz.

What level of HD are you talking full HD or one of the lesser form like 720p, 1080p etc..

They are supposed to have HD DVDs out by the end of next year on less then a 30GB disc. At what level of resolution is yet to be seen.

Many people here (myself included) wouldn't want a phone with that functionality but recent research by Nokia shows that about 2/3rds of people do... this is the iPod's achilles heel in terms of future growth.

The BBC ran an article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/5048966.stm) on that survey and some of the numbers weren't quite so impressively in favour of one-device when you broke them down more by country etc. 87% of Americans wanted their devices to remain separate (tough to see in context whether it was just phone/camera or all functions) whereas those in India had a majority in favour of keeping them separate.
    Statistics... huh!

I suspect the iPod will morph into a variety of different things as hard drives get bigger. We may end up with a larger powered Dock which has DVI/HDMI connections back out and PVR capability so that the iPod becomes the ultimate storage for media. Have it plugged into your TV/cable system and shows record automatically to your iPod to watch on the go.

If the public decides they want mobile video, then phones ain't going to cut it. Phones are being designed to become smaller and slimmer so that you can have it with you always - that doesn't mesh well with video. Watching it on mine is a somewhat painful experience - interesting but pretty pointless aside from the gimmick/desperate factor.

I think if you need a new computer, buy it now.

I'm waiting to see what the next upgrade for the iBook will be but I already have one.

Steve Jobs loves to keep secrets and any rumors are just that. Especially rumors at Macosrumors.

If there's an update to Apple laptops in October or November like some are speculating, it's anybody's guess as to what those upgrades will be.

My own speculation: no G4's, no 13", no bluetooth.

Probably 100 MHz speed bump, maybe a system bus increase, probably 32 MB vram.

Wow, there's like 4 different current threads on Firefox vs. Safari.

As I posted in another thread, Firefox bookmarks synchronizer is much better than the $100 a year Safari solution, especially for people who have to work on a pc at work. And it's free. Using the Bookmarks Synchronizer extension, you point it at your ftp site (I got a free acount at gurble.com) and upload your bookmarks to it. Thereafter, you can have all your Firefox browsers synchronized on different machines, be they linux, windows, or mac.
It's nice to know that Firefox has this ability, too, by installing one of the numerous extensions available for it. However, I get too much value from my (upgraded) .Mac subscription to switch to Firefox from Safari.

Doesn't OS X use Apple Java instead of Sun Java? If you try to install Sun Java, it just directs you to Apple's site. I did notice, however, that further down the article it says that the security hole hasn't been confirmed on OS X.

The article I read last week said that Mac OS X was not vulnerable, so I'm not sure what's happening with it. However, considering how you need an extra browser plug-in to use Java with something other than Safari, it might be trouble to run an exploit on Mac OS X.

The Pizza place? Does some of the best pizza and is always packed with Apple employees.Ugh. I hate BJ's. I've never had their pizza but I've tried a ton of their other dishes and their famous 'pizookie' which still isn't anything worth mentioning.

You can get decent priced pitchers, though. :p

Well it's been decided, I'm going with ASO and the medium plan as I really don't need much at this point since I won't have any animations up for some time. Thanks to those that posted here and sent/answered my emails.
I'm just waiting for ASO to allow plans/packages to be sold and then I can start my new adventure/future of displaying my cartoons/art to anyone that wishes to view them :D

Like they really can expected a warm welcome from the Mac community. Moral of this story? They should have been using an XServe G5....

One of two things will happen with this company/product:

    1. The PearPC code base used turns out to be too risky a move. CherryOS is never released, never heard of again. Nobody cares in 3 weeks.

    2. It turns out to be a revolutionary piece of software; sells a few hundred units before it's either shut down, or bought by Apple. Can anyone say Connectix VGS?

Of course, in event #2, the coder will probably be hired by Apple, and work on PowerPC assembly for the real thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if apple just brings something out without a huge media event. So many people know Apple now anyway. They'll get press no matter what.
