Floating Cities – Your Future World

At first glance, they look like a couple of giant inflatable garden chairs that have washed out to sea. But they are, apparently, the ultimate solution to rapidly rising sea levels. This computer-generated image shows two floating cities, each with enough room for 50,000 inhabitants.

Based on the design of a lilypad, they could be used as a permanent refuge for those whose homes have been covered in water. Major cities including London, New York and Tokyo are seen as being at huge risk from oceans which could rise by as much as 3ft by the end of this century.

This solution, by the award-winning Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut, is designed to be a new place to live for those whose homelands have been wiped out.

Looking into the future, there are chances of some adverse changes affecting our very ecological system. This can be a direct result of global warming, like rising sea levels affecting our land eco-system and engulfing our major coastal cities. In candid effect of such an instigation, there have been progressive yet unique proposals to design and build human habitats in the seas itself. And if (there is a big "if" here) there are credible indications of any tumultuous calamity that can severely affect our very fabric of life, such proposals may become a reality in spite of the resources consumed; as the essence of our very survival comes into question.

Eco-credentials
Self sufficient sustainability is the main pillar upon which such floating city propositions tend to be based. The city-islands are to be designed in such a manner so that the whole spatial element can make use of green technologies like wave, wind and solar energy to produce electricity. In addition, it can use farming, aquaculture and hydroponic techniques to grow its own food. Effectual zoning patterns of human habitats are also important, as the spatial nature shouldn't only imbue energy efficiency but also convenient living conditions.

The Hurdles

1. Sea Storms:
Naturally this can be the severest hurdle in the face of this design.

2. Transportation:
A whole new transit system would be required, keeping in mind the total economic situation prevailing then. Furthermore, water transportation is not that feasible when compared to land transportation.

3. High Humidity:
The humidity levels would be much higher when being close to water. Moreover, there is no definite solution for cramped spaces in case of population increase.

4. High Cost:
The same problem plaguing the conventional cities; the cost involved could be huge even if we do possess the technology.

Fuuvi Pick Flash Drive Like USB Mini Digital Camera

The Fuuvi Pick is probably the cutest digital camera ever made. The Pick stands about three centimeters tall and is being marketed as a "toy digital camera." Fuuvi Pick isn't much larger than a flash drive, but it's actuall a digital camera, capable of capturing both stills and videos.

The tiny camera measures just 1.37″ (h) x 2.75″ (w) x 0.59″(d) and weighs under an ounce. It captures stills at 1280 x 1024 resolution (1.3 megapixels), and can shoot video at 720 x 480 at 30fps. Its tiny F2.8 lens shoots only at ISO 100, but if you're using this thing for your pictures, I'm assuming you're not expecting museum-quality images. The very fact that they call these things a "toy digital camera" should have tipped you off.

The coolest thing about the Fuuvi is the end of the camera pops off just like a flash drive, and the camera will dock and charge when plugged into your computer's USB port. The camera's storage (a Micro SD card up to 16GB) will be immediately recognized as a drive on your PC, just like a flash drive.

iPhone 5 to Sport 8 MegaPixel Camera[Sony Confirmed]

Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer has confirmed that Sony's upcoming image sensors for would be surely delayed for Apple's iPhone and iPad devices. In an interview with Walt Mossberg at Wall Street Journal he has revealed this fact. It is also being rumored that iPhone 5 will be sporting 8 mega pixel camera from Sony.

According to 9to5Mac, Sony CEO Howard Stringer told Walk Mossberg that their camera image sensor facility in Sendia was affected by the tsunami and so getting image sensors to Apple will be delayed. We all know that Sony never supplied any camera components to Apple current products. So, if this is true, then these image sensors are for the unreleased products like iPhone 5 & iPad 3 & future iPodTouch.

Stringer’s discussion of camera production for Apple was confirmed by The Wall Street Journal:

Early on, he raised the irony of Sony supplying camera components for Apple devices. It “always puzzles me,” he said. “Why would I make Apple the best camera?”

It is unclear what devices he was talking about as Sony isn’t known to supply key camera components, known as image sensors, to Apple; A Sony spokeswoman declined to comment and an Apple spokesperson couldn’t be reached for comment.

This delay could be the reason for Apple not announcing / launching its Next Gen iPhone – iPhone 5 on time. It is expected to be launched early next year.

iPhone jailbreaking may not be in the news much anymore, but the jailbreak community is alive and well. It typically takes jailbreakers just a few days to compromise a new iOS release. But now they have their control to stop users to use Cydia and that's what exactly Apple has done. Apple has reportedly blocks the Cydia access in all it's retail stores.

If you try accessing Cydia on a device connected to one of Apple's Wi-Fi hotspots, you'll be surprised to see Apple's website load instead.

Although this isn't going to deter jailbreaking one slight little bit, it's still rather funny.

RIM: No BlackBerry Messenger For iOS

It was rumored that RIM might release an iOS application of the BlackBerry Messenger for iPhone/iPodTouch/iPad, just to make the service more popular. Though, it could have a negative impact on the overall sells of their products. At present, RIM doesn't have plans to take BBM to the iOS platform so there will not be any cross-platform messaging.

BBM is one of the key unique features that BlackBerry users have come to love. As a messaging app, messages are delivered quickly and securely–much like an SMS or push email. There is also notifications for when messages are sent or read so you'll know if the recipient has opened your messages. Best of all, for text-happy teens who are in the BlackBerry circle, you can eschew a text messaging plan and just consume data with BBM.

Most recently, Research in Motion had announced that it was opening up BBM so BlackBerry developers can integrate BBM and make it a social feature in their own apps.

Also, RIM has announced that it is opening the BBM for the developers so that they can integrate it in the application and take it to the next level. This conclude that BBM will not be available for iOS anytime soon.

Celeste 1.0 RC Coming Soon

Cocoanuts, the developer of Celeste has already released the much awaited Celeste app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Now the developer has tweeted that they have been reporting issues and bugs with Celeste and they have been able to fix many. So, they would be launching Celeste 1.0 RC very soon.

Earlier a user have reported that when he tries to transfer files from his iPhone or iPad, Bluetooth symbol lights up, but the iDevice doesn't accept transfer via Celeste.

For those who don't know, Celeste app lets you to send and receive files via bluetooth on your jailbroken iPhone 4,iPhone 3GS,iPhone 3G,iPod touch or iPad running on iOS 4.

It also makes any song or video received over bluetooth on your iOS device,act exactly as if they had been bought from the iTunes store.

Unlock iPhone 4 Without Gevey SIM [Video]

I think all of you are familiar with Gevey SIM that unlocks your iPhone 4 iOS 4.3 Baseband 04.10.01 including baseband 02.10.04 and 03.10.01. But, iPhone 4 can also be unlocked without Gevey SIM.

Dill Huang has used the 112 exploit to unlock his iPhone 4 without using Gevey or any other extra SIM. He has created a video for proof of concept, in which he used two SIM's on his iPhone 4 on baseband 03.10.01, one from Bell Mobility Canada and other from Vodafone.

Dill Huang carried out a test between two SIM's on his iPhone 4, SIM A is un-official SIM (which is carrier locked to Bell Mobility Canada) and SIM B is a test SIM which is on another carrier (Vodafone), but has a "test" IMSI instead of real value. First he inserts SIM A in the iPhone and dials 112 and hangs up with in 2 seconds. Then toggles to flight mode and ejects SIM A. Now, he inserts SIM B and then turns off the flight mode. The iPhone 4 gets unlocked.

Verizon To Launch Droid Bionic and iPhone 5 on June 9

Sometimes it can happen that we can’t believe what we’re hearing. The same thing has happened right now. Verizon is set to launch the Motorola Droid Bionic and the iPhone 5 on June 9 of this year. An internal document snagged by Droid-Life says the release date of the Droid Bionic and the iPhone 5.

The photo of the Verizon document does confirm that the iPhone 5 will have a 1 GHz Dual Core Processor, 4″ Retina display both of which were predicted to occur in the next iPhone. Now the document may or may not be real but we are inclined to believe it until Verizon either denies or confirms it. Verizon even went as far as stating that it will not support 4G LTE but it will support it though some kind of dongle. Someone might lose their job over this leak if it's true unless its a elaborate PR trick.

MSI Windtop AE2050 All-In-One Desktop PC Launched in Europe

MSI has launched its Brazos-based all-in-one desktop the MSI Wind Top AE2050 in Europe with actual availability on the Old Continent likely set for next week (early April is the official word).

HTC Flyer Android Tablet PC Official Video

HTC has officially dropped official video of their upcoming tablet, HTC Flyer on YouTube. With tablets like iPad 2, Motorola Xoom we now have HTC Flyer Tablet also available in the market.

The video shows the most attractive Scribe Technology and other cool stuffs of the device. The Scribe technology lets you write on the Screen of Flyer Tablet with a special Pen.

The Flyer has a 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution screen, will run on the HSPA+ network at T-Mobile for the US and a WiFi only version will be coming too. HTC Sense UI is main thing that plays over the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS. The tablet is powered by a 1.5 GHz processor, running on Android OS. With 1 GB Ram and 32GB internal storage.

Rumor: PlayStation 4 Coming December 2012

Many people are wondering about the PlayStation 4 release date, but Sony, and the game developers for Playstatiom 3, are really not interested to release the next generation playstation.

PlayStation was released in 1994, PlayStation 2 was released in 2000, PlayStation 3 was released in 2006, and PlayStation 4 would be released in 2012 if the every six years console release continues.

The PlayStation 4 could be delayed until 2014 due to the lack of success the PlayStation 3 had early on. Since the PS3's debut in November of 2006, every console been sold for a loss until April 2010. Early estimates put the manufacturing cost per unit at around $805 per PlayStation 3, which lost Sony between $225 and $305 per unit sold.

However, it will not be available this year because they will be concentrating on the Sony Next Generation Portable (NGP), another console that Sony is going to show case.

According to Sony the PlayStation 3 was built to last for 10 years which could put the PlayStation 4 release at 2016. The PlayStation 3 was released in 2006, and four years later Sony continues to support the PlayStation 2, so it is possible we could see the PlayStation 4 before 2016.

iPad 2 Teardown: GSM Vs CDMA Models of iPad 2

iFixit completed the much-awaited teardown of the iPad 2, with focus on major differences in the GSM and CDMA versions. Just after some hours of the public launch of iPad 2, iFixit tore it down. We also have covered the detailed comparison between iPad and iPad 2. So hopefully this comparison will also help you to differentiate the two models of iPad 2.

Interestingly, the WiFi only version of iPad was also included in the teardown lab work, in addition to the GSM and CDMA versions. Apparently, all the models looks same but if you remove the cover, then you will see a very clear difference in all three versions. Check out the image below.

There are basically two main differences.

1. The main difference between CDMA and GSM version is the Micro-SIM card. GSM model has it attached with the antenna whereas CDMA model don't have it. This difference is because the CDMA model don't need to save the users's data in the SIM. In CDMA version, the data of user is hosted on board.

2. Another difference is the CDMA model has an extra antenna like iPhone 4.

Finally, the logic boards of all three models got a change as well. The most surprising here is the Qualcomm MDM6600 baseband chip on the CDMA iPad 2 board which resembles to that inside iPhone 4's CDMA version. On the other hand, the GSM model carries Infineon chips to host the GSM connectivity. The picture above clearly shows the difference in logic boards of the three models of iPad 2.
